Secretariat restructuring and staffing update

There have been a few changes in IETF Administration LLC staffing since January of this year (2026) including the recent insourcing of the Secretariat, which are summarised here to give an overall view of the staffing structure.
First, a brief reminder that the IETF Administration LLC (IETF LLC) was created by the community to provide the corporate legal home for the IETF, the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), and the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). The responsibilities of the IETF LLC include: Operations - supporting the ongoing operations of the IETF, including meetings and non-meeting activities; Finances - managing the IETF's finances and budget; Fundraising - raising money on behalf of the IETF; Compliance - establishing and enforcing policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules. These functions and further details on how the IETF LLC should operate, are set out in RFC 8711, part of BCP 101.
The IETF LLC is organised into the following teams, led by the IETF Executive Director (Jay Daley):
Communications and Operations, a team of two, the Senior Director of Communications and Operations (Greg Wood) and our new Research and Insights Analyst (Akanksha Gohil).
Community Support, a team of four, led by the Senior Director of Community Support (Cindy Morgan).
Finance, a team of one, the Director of Finance (Debbie Sasser).
Meetings and Events, a team of five, led by the Senior Director of Meetings and Events (Laura Nugent) assisted by the Director of Meeting Operations (Paige Mustafa). This team is supported by the meeting network contractor (Linespeed) and the meeting remote participation service provider (Meetecho).
RFC Production Center, a team of eleven, led by the Director of RPC Operations (Sandy Ginoza) and Director of RPC Communications and Strategy (Jean Mahoney). This team is supported by a part-time contractor, the RFC Series Consulting Editor (Alexis Rossi).
Tools, a team of seven, led by the Senior Director of IT (Robert Sparks). This team is supported by a part-time contractor providing system administration services (Dane Foster).
The Meetings and Events team and Community Support team together make up the IETF Secretariat and this split into two distinct teams is the result of a restructuring following the recent insourcing. This restructuring, which takes full effect from 1 August 2026, was driven by a need to establish clearer lines of responsibility, more focused roles, a better distribution of work to resources and to address vacancies after the departure of two staff members.
Beyond this, the IETF LLC is considering a new full-time fundraising role to both fill a part-time vacancy and provide a greater focus to fundraising. Other than that, there are no plans for any additional staffing or changes to the current staff/contractor split.
